I will probably end up stepping on some toes with this post and it is definitly something I have remained quiet about for just that reason, but sometimes you just have to take the plunge and go for it.
The majority of Americans do actually wish, pray and hope for equality between blacks and whites. But I think there are some who really and truly don’t and no I don’t mean white supremacists. I think it’s every day people who are actually hiding it by saying they really do want equality. Let me explain, if I can.
I live in a very small town and for a very long time there was very few black families. I went all the way from elementary to middle school and only knew one family, when I got to high school there was maybe 3-4 more. I knew all of them and I considered each one of them close friends. I didn’t think of them as my ‘black’ friends, they were just friends. To this day, if you tried to hurt one of them, I’d be the first one in the fray to defend them, as I would any of my friends.
I think one of the main things we need to do is stop trying to classify people. We have went through a lot of ‘names’. We need to stop. The latest name is African-American. We should change that name one more time to just American. That’s what we all are, Americans! I don’t think we can have true equality, nor can we start wiping out racism until we all just become Americans. I think if people stop focusing on the differences and stop making such a fuss over miscontrued remarks that would go a long way towards equality.
How many times do you see black commedians on tv make derogatory remarks about black people? No one jumps up and starts screaming about equality and racism. Why? Remarks are made all the time about white people too. Nobody jumps up and starts screaming about that either. That Imus guy made his remarks last year and I do think what he said was out of line, but I also know that I’ve heard commedians make remarks twice as bad as that. But suddenly, Al Sharpton jumped in, and suddenly it was the only thing you could see on tv. Now what did that do? All that did was force the issue of difference on everyone. What would have happened instead if Imus’ bosses had forced him to simply apologize on the radio and everyone else just kept quiet? That’s right, it would have died within a day, instead it dragged on forever.
I think Al Sharpton stands up and screams for against racism and he screams for equality, but is that truly what he wants? I opened my home page today and there he was in the top headlines. In trouble because of back taxes and it went on to say he’s not quite as clean as maybe he should be. I think maybe he’s one of those who likes to jump up and start screaming just to get HIS name in the headlines, not to help anyone else. He’s making a darn fortune from companies and politicians. Where do those millions go? Does anyone know? I know one thing, it’s not going towards his taxes. It also says he’s not paying his bills either. So I’m curious, if he’s not paying his bills and not paying his taxes, how come he’s never actually gotten in serious trouble like the rest of regular folks?
This was a top subject on the 10 o’clock news here and this is the kind of thing that drives me nuts. Is there not something more important to debate???
USI is now debating if a spouse and a partner are the same thing. There is just 4 little words that everyone in this world should remember when it comes to gay individuals and gay couples. Those 4 little words are “None of our business”. Some say it’s against God, some say they can’t help it, some say they can’t. The thing here is again “None of our business” people!. I believe one of the main things that a church is at least supposed to teach you is that it is not for us to judge lest you be judged. The only being allowed to judge us is God himself. If you don’t believe in God, well I’m sure there’s something else equally good to use.
What two people decide to do is between them and the power above. Think about it this way, your standing in the grocery store and you look across the tomatoes and there’s the guy/girl of your dreams, you fall in love and you want to spend the rest of your life with that person. Why shouldn’t two men or two women be allowed that same thing? Are they hurting you? Are they arriving at your door at 8pm and forcing you to watch them? I don’t think so….least I hope they aren’t. lol
The point is leave them alone. In the end we’re all just human beings trying to get through life one day at a time the best way we know how.
