Beach Volleyball
Posted by chele at 3:21 pm in In the news

This is going to be a fairly short post, basically just asking a question to see if anyone can give me a reasonable answer. :)
I’ve been watching the olympics…every day. I’ve watched the USA men and women playing volleyball. May and Walsh out there doing their thing in the equivalent of a bikini. Rogers and Dalheuser (spelled wrong I’m sure) out there doing their thing in baggy long shorts and long baggy sleeveless shirts. Now I’m not saying I would like to see the men out there in a speedo, but is turn about not fair play? Could the men at least be required to play shirtless? Maybe the uniform could be biker shorts and no shirt?
Somebody please explain why. Why during these olympics the men get something to look at and us women do not?

Fast Food
Posted by chele at 7:49 am in In the news

I opened my browser this morning which goes directly to the att.net news page and there’s an article that grabs my attention. It’s called “Restaurant kids’ meals loaded with calories”. My first reaction was well DUH. Far as I know McDonald’s and Burger King have never once gotten on national television or anywhere else for that matter and claimed to serve healthy food. lol
I continued to read the article, which for the health of my blood pressure I probably should not have done. One sentence caught my attention, “Parents want to feed their children healthy meals, but America’s chain restaurants are setting parents up to fail,” Are you kidding me? Are they seriously going to blame the restaurant?? If parents want to feed their children healthy meals, then go to the grocery buy some chicken and sprinkle some nice seasoning on it and slide it in the oven or on the grill, then go to the produce or freezer section and pick out some nice veggies and fix those. I have never once seen the workers of McDonald’s forcing parents to feed their children hamburgers and fries. I know the Burger King King is annoying and I hate their commercials, but I’ve never seen him force feed a burger to anyone.
Then I see this line: CSPI nutrition policy director Margo G. Wootan said in a statement. “McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, and other chains are conditioning kids to expect burgers, fried chicken, pizza, French fries, macaroni and cheese, and soda in various combination at almost every lunch and dinner.” Wow, when did those fast food places start breaking into our homes and putting that food on the table?? I think Margo G. Wootan needs to pull her head of her hind end and realize that it’s parents conditioning their children to eat junk. They get off work and stop at the nearest place and buy whatever is easiest.
Stop blaming the restaurants and put the blame where it belongs. Parents have become so engrossed in earning the mighty dollar that they don’t care about what’s important! Growing up we may have not lived in a big fancy house, we didn’t have a fancy car and we sure didn’t have mp3 players, cell phones for every member of the house, including the dog, and we didn’t wear fancy clothes, but when I got ready for school in the morning, there was my mom putting breakfast on the table and she was there to kiss me good bye and tell me she loved me and when I came in the door in the afternoon, there she was asking me how my day was and I knew at 5:00pm supper would be on the table. Eatting at a fast food restaurant was a treat we seldom got and it made that treat very special.
Margo G. Wootan, wake up and smell the coffee and I don’t mean starbucks!

Holy Smokes!

Sometimes you have to wonder if half the country has just completely lost their minds. I’m watching an episode of Tori and Dean that I recorded a week or so ago and they are talking about preschool. The child is 1 year old for goodness sake. lol Everyone keeps telling them that they better get that child enrolled in a school before it’s too late. WHAT? I didn’t even go to preschool. I went straight into kindergarten, man was I deprived. lol
They just said that a good school can cost around 16-17,000 a year. People are living in their cars, they can’t afford food and there is crazy people in this world spending that much money to send a child to school? What is wrong with us? Where the hell did our priorities go so far off kilter? What would happen if say Donald Trump would find 5 families per year that were living on the street or living in their cars and bought them a house, not a huge massive house, but a normal 2-3 bedroom house. Then if Bill Gates did that and so forth and so on. Maybe instead of someone paying 40,000 dollars for a car, they buy a 20,000 car and find a struggling father who is really trying to support his family and buy him a car? Instead of buying a summer house in the hampton’s, buy a family a home. Instead of buying that 4,000 suit, donate 3,000 of it to help pay low income utilities. I’m sure the Help Offices, Audubon Areas, Salvation Army, St Vincent de Pauls, etc would be glad for the help.
It’s time everyone screwed their heads back on tight and stepped out of the ivory towers and take a good look around.

Gas Prices
Posted by chele at 11:13 am in In the news

Gas prices are finally coming back down. The rational part of my brain figures it’s because everyone got smart and started cutting back on gas usuage. I also hope that everyone remains smart and doesn’t go back to gas guzzling. lol
Now that gas prices are slowly starting back down, how about retail prices coming back down a bit? Not a chance. I was speaking to a man who owned a grocery store for 49 years and he said it would never happen. Retail prices go up for any excuse but they never go back down after the excuse is removed. Why is that?
Anyways back to gas prices. The irrational part of my brain, which thinks that Bush will go down in history as the biggest moron, thinks Bush is somehow responsible for the high gas prices and the closer we get to getting him out of office, the lower gas prices will go. lol I figure his family is from Texas, so you know they gotta own oil, so they gotta be loving the oil prices, right? But once he’s out of office, the next president will soon be able to figure out what’s keeping oil prices up, so he has to get oil prices back down and everything back to normal before he goes. Makes sense to me in a crazy conspiracy sort of way. hehehehehe
